Katzenjammers Bierkeller and Restaurant – London Southwark Street

OMG. This is the first time I’ve blogged about German food!! How exciting!

Mr Sensible was celebrating his birthday at a time when the office Christmas parties were going wild at London Bridge. 😅 I’ve never seen so many joint office (probably from all over the place) Christmas parties in one sitting. LOL!

Arrived after 6 pm, it felt like a crazy house… they even have to check your bags before you enter… I guess it’s because of recent events with attacks etc… 😑

First attack of the evening was a pint of Paulaner German beer. It comes from Munich. It’s quite a clear tasting beer and not too bitter. A bit like Heineken.

Apparently we got free pretzls. Ummm, these were nice and salty. A bit like a salty bagel, and better than those mini bagged pretzls.

After drinking the first pint. It was time for the next one! A stein! This is a 2 pinter. I had to carry this from the bar counter to the table and I thought my hands were going to break. Mr Sensible and I were practically competing with each other on who could drink this the fastest. Hahahahah… I won! I soon had to recover from drinking 3 pints in a row. 😌

Here’s the best part… food… As Mr Games and his brother’s girlfriend were ordering food, I thought I would take the opportunity to order as well… Heheheh.

Mr Games ordered the currywurst on bread.

The brother’s girlfriend ordered sausages, saukraut, red cabbage and fries…

And I asked for the currywurst. It doesn’t taste like curry at all. I could taste more of the ketchup. Not sure what type of sausage was used here, but I have a feeling these were frankfurters. Probably one of the easiest and fastest sausages to cook… Well I could have made this! I grew up eating sausages mixed in with ketchup. Nowadays MummyGeek cooks cocktail sausages with ketchup. LOL!

`

I spent around £10 on the currywurst, and the beers were quite expensive… Need to owe the guys back with a drink on the next outing or when Mr Sensible and Mr Games move into their new apartment. I haven’t mentioned that they’re gay but I’m sure you clever readers would’ve realised that by now. 😅

Think I should try this place again but not during the holiday season.

My geeky rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
Good points:
– Very sociable restaurant / beer garden
– Got to try out a stein without having to go to Germany 😊
– There’s entertainment, but I couldn’t hear much… so noisy!
Bad points:
– A bit expensive
– Tight sitting space
– Food wasn’t bad, but I thought it was very average for the amount spent on it
