The Supermarket Christmas Adverts 2018

I’m too lazy to write single posts for every single Christmas advert made this year. Here’s a post of the usual supermarket ads I post about.

Tesco – #EveryonesWelcome

Hahahahah. Tesco are still using a family-orientated theme in their advert. It’s actually quite charming this year. A lot less controversial, a bit more positive compared to last year’s dialogues. Scene after scene, they just continue from one dialogue to the next. Pretty cool.

Sainsbury’s – The Big Night

Oh. I actually liked last year’s sing-along song. This year’s ad is a bit more dramatical with a young girl being a bit shy at the beginning in the school Christmas show. Then she suddenly bursts out with her vocals. It’s a lot less multicultural in this ad but very, very christmasy. A bit like an American movie.

Asda – Bring Christmas Home

There’s some familiarity with this ad. It reminds me of one of Argos’s adverts where they the yetis skate through snowy roads. This Asda ad is quite similar, but you have people running downhill and in the snow with skimpy dresses, snow wear or on a snow bike just trying to get to a litte girls home. Pretty cute but a little excessive. It must have been so cold for all of them making this ad!

Marks and Spencer – Must Haves

Hm, there’s no wow factor in this advert. Bring back the food ads. I keep saying that because I really like them! This is like an Alice in Wonderland kind of storyline. Holly Willoughby plugs in the Christmas lights and then she views a whole new world of people trying to get through Christmas parties, sleep and nights in with the friends. There’s even a fairy god mother scene!

There are shorter ads of this combined, they elaborate more on each scene.

Aldi – Kevin the Carrot and the Wicked Parsnip
Kevin the Carrot is back but oh no! The French Wicked Parsnip has captured his family, so Kevin is off to the rescue to save his family.  He winds through the table of Christmas food, and eventually he’s able to safe his family and dump the Wicked Parsnip into a bowl of nuts. It all turns out to be a fairy tale. Pretty cute.

Morrisons – Free From
I think Morrisons are trying to indicate that they cater for people who are intolerant to certain food products. It’s a bit… hmmm… How can I put it? Different. We see a young man trying to support his younger sister to do things by saying, “Go on”. But to me it doesn’t really relate to the free from products that Morrisons is trying to advertise here… Confused!

Co-op – Christmas is better together

Slightly funny. Here we see three friends having a chat with each other about when they start feeling Christmasy, we have mince pies, cheese, cats and charades. I say no more!

Which one did I like the most amongst these? Drum roll!

Tesco was my fave ad in this post…

Lidl will be added into another post!
