Hyper Japan Christmas 2017 @ Tobacco Docks

Doing my HSK 3 Mandarin exam today… Good luck to me!! (Aiming for 80 to 95%, since I’ve hardly studied!)… ๐Ÿ˜‡
A few weeks to go until it’s Christmas!!
It took me a long time to decide on whether I should go to Hyper Japan Christmas 2017. I wanted to see the schedule beforehand, plus see if any other events from work and other parties were going to happen at the same time… well I had already pre-booked my time out from work a long time ago, but the Hyper Japan schedule was still not out yet!! ๐Ÿ˜‘
In the end I bought my ticket for the Friday. I’ve never been to Hyper Japan on a Friday before, I wanted to see if it would be crowded or quiet…

It was a quiet entry when I entered… It was the same as the summer version where we had to enter through the car park… So first off was to walk around, I skipped the shop floor and food for a bit and walked around… Think I came at good time where no one was around!

Here’s the start of the Illuminight… There was an interview going on, so I left…

Went into the next room… I like this section, complete darkness and the room was filled with these lanterns and lit up objects…

As I came out of the room, I thought I was seeing Japanese dolls depicting The Manger scene. ๐Ÿ˜…

Next were the Goldfish lanterns… Think I was quite lucky that only a few people were about for me to take this photo opportunity.ย

Entered “The World of FairyTail”, was asked if I’ve read the manga… well… Mr Sting, my brother has the first 50 books, I could lend it from him… But now I’ve started watching the animรฉ version. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I’ve watch the first 10 episodes. All I can say that it’s better than watching One Piece at the moment.ย

Had a walk around before I returned back to this area for The Ramen Experience…

Entered the Artbox area… Phew… Not many people were around!! Everytime I go this stall it’s usually packed!ย

Also went into Tofu Cute, but I bought things a little later.

More walking around…

And then finally The Ramen Experience!!

I took the 2pm slot because I knew I would be hungry by then. Got to drink a little bit of each soup… Shoyru and Sio were too salty, Miso wasn’t bad, but in the end I chose the Tonkotsu flavour which had less salt, creamy and tint of sweetness.ย

Queued up for the Tonkotsu ramen, which was the longest queue… ๐Ÿ˜†

Itadakimasu!! ใ„ใŸใ ใใพใ™๏ผ

Gochisousamadeshita. ใ”ใกใใ†ใ•ใพใงใ—ใŸใ€‚

Next up was to watch the live performances… This girl is from Tokyo… She usually performs in a group…

Then go back out…

Saw this guy impersonating The Monkey King! So cool!!

Kept walking around to the places that I haven’t been to yet…

Yay!! I got a cartoon self-portrait!! Wanted one of these for a little while now! (I’ve covered up my real name by the way ๐Ÿ˜œ)… This was created by Mayu Miyamoto San ๅฎฎๆœฌ็œŸ็”ฑใ•ใ‚“. ใ‚ใ‚ŠใŒใจใ†ใ”ใ•ใ„ใพใ—ใŸ๏ผ(Aterier Miyamoto Portrait)… I’m not as cute as this though… ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Another food break… I was determined to eat like an animรฉ character and fill my stomach until I couldn’t eat any more…

Itadakimasu!! ใ„ใŸใ ใใพใ™๏ผ

I saw a guy eating one of these whilst I was eating my pork katsu don… Had to find the stall and eat this dessert!!! It was fairy expensive too!!

Gochisousamadeshita. ใ”ใกใใ†ใ•ใพใงใ—ใŸใ€‚

More live action… BOO + VJ 2mo… Think I missed their first few songs…

And then I waited to see Hibiki Ichikawa (think I’ve become a fan of his after seeing him perform so many times!) and DJ Takaki. Had no idea he was performing on the Friday, as the schedules were still not out until the very last minute!! So happy I chose the Friday to come now. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

It was time to do my last rounds… wanted to see the lanterns and the Illuminight again as it got darker…ย

Well, I had fun this year! Fewer people on a Friday… Might try that again next year!!

Hyper Japan 2017 @ Tobacco Docks

Trying to speed through my remaining posts from the past two months… Speedily I write… And apologies for writing a fairly short article!
Hyper Japan Summer 2017 was in Tobacco Docks between July 14th to 16th.
This year I went on a Saturday morning. And just for the morning session. It was amazingly a quiet entry compared to all the years I’ve been going to. This year, we went through the car park. Scandalous! LOL!!

Went to most of the stalls and had a look before I decided to purchase anything. I took fewer pictures of people in costumes this year… (I think I’ve outgrown the pretty costumes… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ sumimasen! )

I ended up in the live stage area…

… and I just missed the first band! Broken Doll.

Got to see The Sixth Lie, who practically deafened my ears with their modern Japanese rock music.

Then lots of people left and I got to see Fuka Mariwo and her dancer…

Moso Calibration came on, they were like a typical Japanese girl band…

I was quite thirsty, so I spent a bit on bubble tea!

And I couldn’t miss these peeps!! Hibiki Ichikawa, Akari Mochizuki and also a guitarist Hide Takemoko… plus the students! I’ve grown accustomed watching these peeps from almost all the Hyper Japan events they come to… ^_^

Then I did my final walk around the area… Spotted Farfetch’d which is Mr Games’s fave Pokรฉmon at the moment… Haven’t been playing Pokรฉmon Go for a month or so now… Got bored of it!

Some dancing classes going on here… ^_^

And Miss Pinky’s favourite alcohol… Prosecco!! ยฌ_ยฌ”” This was outside… there were long queues for food…

In the end I went home early… More like I went early to avoid traffic, people and to find food!! I went to Wasabi opposite Liverpool Street Station and had some yakisoba… hungry!!
Here’s some of the miniatures (apart from the Hello Kitty) I bought for my pot plants… They’ve actually all moved to the cacti pot as Miss Vegan said she would take the mysterious tree plant for her friend…

Next Hyper Japan is at the end of November… I’m going to check the schedules before deciding on buying tickets… I might end up going…

Hyper Japan 2016 – London Olympia

Wooooo. Continuing with my London holiday with Hyper Japan of Summer 2016!!
It’s been so hot, I haven’t had the energy to blog.
But finally, it’ cooled down… and I have a cold at the same time… runny noses… ugh.
Two weekends ago, Hyper Japan, the summer version happened. I think I miss Japan. I really want to go again! Think I might have to do a trip on my own… maybe during one of the spring seasons and check out the cherry blossoms. ^_^ One day… Must improve my Japanese first then take another trip. Heheh. This year Hyper Japan was in Olympia West. I wonder why. Last year it was in The O2 and the queues were horrrendous… this year, it was managed fairly well. I even took the bus to get there! Wow!!

This was the queue around 8.40am on Saturday morning… the queues got bigger and longer. People were joking around about Pokemon Go. During that week, I really didn’t want to play Pokemon Go… it looked boring… but now thanks to Mr Games, Mr Sensible and Miss Money (who all by the way were on holiday at the time), I started replaying a week after the release date. Humph. Go Pokemon Go.

Just after 9am I got in. ^_^

I walked around like a headless chicken trying to find all the cool stuff. It actually looked a bit meek from the bottom.

Then I went to the top… The top view it looks so colourful and fun!

So much Pokemon!!! ย I found you all without having to play the game at the time. Wahahahah!!!

I took the liberty of buying a Pikachu cooking spatula… the one second to the left. I’ve yet to use it.

Wow…!! Knitted Pokemon.

Awwwww, I so wanted this!!!!! Maybe next year. ยฌ_ยฌ””

These were so expensive… think a lot of people wanted them but they were defo out of my budget. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Took a picture with Domokun!! By the way the Gudetama t-shirt I’m wearing below was bought on eBay. ^_^

Bought one of these grilled pork and cheese buns. It was alright. Nothing special. Wish it was a little hot…

Had a green matcha bubble tea at the same time…

I found you big Pikachu!!! ^_^

Every year Akari Mochizuki appears at this event. She always sings the same songs. And every time I listen to it I practically sing along!

As well as Mochi, Hibiki Ichikawa always shows up with his students.

As soon as the music ended, I headed straight to this event. I think my brother Mr Stingy knows this guy… it’s one of his ex-colleague’s partner/ relative… I didn’t ask. But Mr Stingy came on the Friday so didn’t turn up on the Sunday as he would usually do. He missed out on a lot…

Afterwards I walked around a bit looking for things to do… and in the end I bought this cuddly Gudetama for ยฃ30. ยฌ_ยฌ””” Yep, I spent my money on a big plushie. I will never do that again, I swear!!
As I was walking around, I heard someone singing the Totoro song… who was singing it?? It wasย

Azumi Inoue!!! :O wOooOoooow Really?! The original singer to some of the most popular Studio Ghibli animes?! Yes!! It was her!!

Yuyu, her daughter also performed with her… and I think she’s famous in Japan too, Amazing!

After listening to them both, I had to watch Totoro when I went home.

Walked more. Round and round I go. Bought a cute t-shirt for Miss Vegan – trying to find a bargain for her was hard… she’s never been to one of these events! Took some leaflets (and got a free fan after filling out a questionnaire) for Mr Iron Man who’s going to Japan soon, but only for a week – so look after him people of Japan ^_^. Bought some girlie things for Miss Pinky, Baby B and my French family. Rested at some point but kept going towards the end of the session. Talked to a Chinese guy in Cantonese, it was his first time going to one of these events… He was on holiday. Hahahaha.ย

The ice cream had to be eaten this year again. It was so hot because there was so much sun that day.

These two are Charisma.com… when I was eating my ice cream I swear I was hearing the most awful song ever. But when I went to see who was singing, it was lot of disco music being played… hence a lot of standing fans.

The final part of the day I had to go to was the fashion show… Sorry for bad collage,,, so many models!

And the final act of the Saturday first session was Yukari Inada. She’s cool.

Well, how much did I spend? Maybe around ยฃ100… I didn’t count to be honest. I blame Gudetama for making me spend!!!

Hope to continue to go… Might be skipping the Christmas one this year.

p.s. I didn’t take many pictures of people in their costumes this year… seemed bleak…

Hyper Japan Christmas Market 2015 – London Tobacco Dock

It’s time for another Hyper Japan event!! The Christmas event!! Woohoo.
Never got to go last year because Miss Pinky and I landed on the weekend it was happening on. So we were already Japanned out from our flight. ^_^
This year I HAD to go! My fourth Hyper Japan. It’s in a smaller arena called Tobacco Dock – a place I have never been to before. London has so many little corners I’ve never been to! Well, the queue was not bad that morning. Got a wrist band because I bought a dual ticket but because I wasn’t priority I still had to queue in the normal queue to get in! ยฌ_ยฌ” Well, we moved quite swiftly compared to the summer one. ๐Ÿ™‚

So here it goes, lots and lots of pictures… Meet you peeps at the second half of the session, which is further down…

matcha bubble tea from Milk Tea Pearl

ย Can’t believe there was a Maid Cafe!! ^_^ LOL!!

Gosh! Fashion show was EXTREMELY crowded!! I moved towards the centre back after the anime directors did there Q&A’s.

Minori – Japanese lolita fashion designer!!

Stood on my chair to get a pic of this!! ยฌ_ยฌ””

Kawaiiiii!!

Domo-kun!!!!

Second half started in the coooold! Had to go back out and start queuing again… This time because I had the yellow wrist band I was given priority to go back in… Woohoo!! ^_^ Happy Geek!! BUT we still had to wait until 3.45 pm before the second half actually started… Boooo!!!

So at 3.45 pm we all were allowed back in, I was hungry again so I went off to find food… Was not impressed by chicken katsu burger served by some Cantonese speakers… ยฌ_ยฌ”” but I did like the mango bubble tea… should’ve went to have a donburi at the opposite stall…

Time to go and watch more entertainment!! These ninjas are funny!!

Time for the cosplay parade… Some of the audience was telling those standing in the aisles to move or sit down as those with seats could not see… Ugh… Maybe they should’ve built a mini stadium…

Unfortunately the peeps moved so quickly that it was very hard to take pictures of them…

And finally the person Japanese band I was awaiting to see all day (I actually heard them rehearsing in the morning)… Ladybaby!!!! They are a YouTube phenomenon!! Ladybeard (real name: Rick Magarey) who is an Australian Wrestler and is a 5 year old here who sings heavy metal with two cute teenagers Rei Kuromiya and Rie Kaneko (who unfortunately was not able to make this weekend due to a family situation)… ^_^

Ladybeard

Ladybeard and Rei Kuromiya

Rei Kuromiya

So after the cosplay and mini Ladybaby concert I decided to brave the cold and stand in the line to Meet and Greet them! Stood in a what was presumed a spiral line with a ย bunch of eager beavers also wanting pictures… Make sure you purchase photos, a raffle or t-shirts to be able to take a picture with them!!! I purchased pictures worth ยฃ10 (5 in a pack) at the front…

Arrrgh! I hugged them both!!! And Ladybeard says I have a cute London accent! Awwwww, so kawaiiiiii!!!! I spoke to Rei in Japanese (konbanwa and arigatou gozaimasu) – she looked a bit bemused… They both looked tired and I saw Rei pout. Awwww, not long to go. One more afternoon to entertain!!

Mr Stingy informed me it’s Rei-chan’s birthday today (Sunday 29th Nov). Happy Birthday Rei-chan!!! ^_^ … Realised all three members of Ladybaby are all Sagittarians! LOL!! No wonder!!

Picture on my camera ^_^
In the end, after braving the cold, I went around one last time… I bought some ice cream, and I’m sure there was wasabi flavour, unfortunately I was too late and missed the wasabi flavour. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I bought the espresso flavour, which is awesome and better than the Haagen Dazs coffee one, and I tried out the ginger one, which was sweet. ^_^ ยฃ2 a pot, and it didn’t melt as much as I thought it would… Turned all mousse like when I got home…

In the end I spent ยฃ67.50… I kept tabs on myself so as not to overspend like a crazy geek who wanted everything!
Journey home was a nightmare by the way… I had to change buses about three times before I got home. Humph!!
My brother Mr Stingy is there right now… So only a few hours to go before it ends,.. I might go next year if I’m not on another holiday. ^_^

Hyper Japan 2015 – London O2

Ah, it’s another year for Hyper Japan! I’m still in the Japanese mode coz I’m still learning Japanese – I think why not continue learning as I’ve already started. Learning Korean will have to start in a few more years time I’m afraid.
This year I ended up going alone to Hyper Japan. I did invite Miss Pinky and co but I think with the baby coming it would be a struggle for her to walk everywhere. Master H now has a social life and we can’t interrupt that. And Mr Picky is just Mr Picky… My other friends are just busy. Hyper Japan ended up in O2 this year which was so much easier for me to get to. Yay!! ^_^ย
But boo with the long queues today! Why was I lazy to get up??!! So angry with myself for not turning up early. I started queuing at North Greenwich Station that’s how bad it was… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I must’ve queued for 45 minutes and I was already drying up from the hot sun… it was an easy way to get a sun tan!

Finally I got in!! ^_^ First you go into the entrance and turn right… people were already sitting on the floor when I went in… are those peeps already exhausted? Wow. The first part of Hyper Japan I saw was the video game section.ย

I took a peek inside before heading into the stalls.

Do you remember the SNES?

Then I headed out and met the girl band Honey Spice ใƒใƒ‹ใƒผใ‚นใƒ‘ใ‚คใ‚น.

ย cosplay photo session taking place…

Then further along I met Heisei Kotohimeย ไน™ๅฅณ้ฉๅ‘ฝ.ย
Heisei Kotohime
Further along the way I went into the stalls section and had a look around… it was like the same the stuff from last year and didn’t buy anything at this point.

Domo-kun!! ^_^

Got free snacks!! >.<""

Listened to a non-Japanese sing in Japanese too!
A duo Die Milch was about to sing and play so I thought I’ll go and watch them… they are pretty amazing! Must buy their album! I’ve put one of their songs on my YouTube channel.

I’m sure this was the same Goku I saw last year!! ๐Ÿ˜€

It was time to move around…ย
Rilakkuma ๐Ÿ˜€

And then finally eat. ^_^ย

I remembered that it was the girls time to sing, I was late but made my way to Building 6. The entrance is opposite the games section…
I heard both Honey Spice and Heisei Kotohime…

Then a lot of people were there to listen to Tokyo Girls’ Style – these girls have lots of energy and just performed song after song.

Next up was Eir Aoi!! I completely forgot about her… luckily I stayed to listen!! She almost made me deaf because of the loud music, but she’s amazing!! Eir Aoi spoke mostly in Japanese in between songs and I think I’m happy I understood some of what she said… the easy stuff… ๐Ÿ˜€

After the mini concerts I sat in the back garden for a few minutes…ย

Hyper Japan then closed for about 45 minutes… the guys needed a break!! And I needed to sit and rest… When it was to go back in I queued for the toilet – which took forever!!
It was then time to look at all the stalls again and decide what to buy!ย

Was tired… but took a few more pictures and entered the gaming area again…
Heisei Kotohime

I left before 5pm and made it home by 6pm! Phew!! I could see more people queuing and I’m glad I was there for a good 6-7 hours. Exhausted. Glad I bought a dual pass too. It was worth it.ย
At the beginning I was happy it was the O2 but compared to last year it was better in Earl’s Court Arena 1.
Here’s my purchases.

I needed new bowls >_<"

Tips for the the next Hyper Japan:
– Bring cash (always) – between ยฃ50-ยฃ100… just depends on what you’re buying really
– Get there early
– Bring a drink
– Dress smart (like a t-shirt and shorts depending on weather) unless you’re in cosplay
Website:ย http://hyperjapan.co.uk/

p.s. I forgot to go to the theatre section… too tired!! Hope you all enjoy it!!

Hyper Japan 2014 – London Earl’s Court

Ah, it’s another year, another summer and another Hyper Japan event! Woohoo!!
Wasn’t going to go this year, but felt like people were asking (@grocerygems and a classmate learning Japanese with me). Hmmmm… it took me long to decide, so I eventually asked Miss Pinky if she wanted to come along with Mr Picky and Master H. They all said yes! But then the day before we were to go we found out that Master H couldn’t go (his mum is strict) because he has football practice. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So sad. I haven’t seen Master H for a long time… Can’t skip one training session…
This year it was a little different, I got my ยฃ8 tickets from the main site (forgot to wait for the Groupon and Amazon 2 for 1 vouchers).

This year it was in Earl’s Court One and also we decided to go to the morning Saturday session because last years queue was horrendous. We got to Earl’s Court just before 9.30am (which was the time I was aiming for). It was a long queue when we got there, not sure if the doors had opened yet, but when we got to the end of the end of the queue, it actually started shifting, and we got closer and closer to the door within 5 minutes. That was quick!! This year was better organised! Better queuing system, better service!. Wow. Such a big difference after a year. (I really cannot complain this year :D).

At Earl’s Court – court 1

The queue

ย Maps are everywhere.

So from here onwards are the pictures for this years Hyper Japan. Was really, really happy I did not miss this out. ^_^
We all wandered off at the start, then got together, then we kind of split up again… We found Mr Picky just playing video games at one point! ๐Ÿ˜€

This year there were cash machines right near the entrances – but still bring cash to these events as some stalls don’t accept cards. It was also advised to bring water if you’re queuing in the heat (so glad we went in the morning!!!).
If you have this summer’s Hyper Japan, there is still the winter one to go to which is on November 14th-16th at Earl’s Court again. So make sure you book tickets well in advance.

Hyper Japan will be back in November!

Hyper Japan 2013 – London Earl’s Court

Sometimes I think my friends and colleagues encourage me to blog even though they don’t mean to! I also think I have told one too many friends and colleagues that I blog ยฌ,ยฌ” … Well one of my colleagues (calling him Mr B… he keeps sending me stuff to go to! I can’t keep up mate) sent me an email weeks ago alerting me about a discount from Amazon Local to go to Hyper Japan in Earls Court. The ticket was ยฃ12 for two people, and children under 10 could go in for free!! Woah, an offer I could not turn down… So that ticket was for me, Miss Pinky and Master H.

So I got this ticket, and tweeted it to the world… and then a week before the event I had to get one more ticket from the Hyper Japan website (they were selling them at full price at this point), and this one was for Mr Picky… that was another ยฃ12 not including the extra ยฃ2 something charge. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Hyper Japan is an event about Japanese culture. It unites the gamers, foodies, anime / manga fans, shoppers and anybody who likes kawaii things! An all-round event for me then! I think this event started last year or in 2011, actually it was in 2010, and not too sure how it all came about… I wanted to show Miss Pinky the Japanese culture so that when we go to Japan one day she knows what she wants! Hahahah ๐Ÿ˜€

Our Saturday started out early after 10 am. Miss Pinky, Mr Picky and Master H had breakfast but I already had something to eat! We got to Earl’s Court before 12 pm, but we didn’t see how long the queue was until we reached the end…ย
Outside Earl’s Court 2
Unfortunately the queuing system was not brilliant, as at one point it was curved around for some reason – that’s before we even got there… and we think a few people jumped the queue. It was annoying as the car park entrance was also next to the massive queue! OMG!!!!! It took a long while before the volunteers and staff to sort us out, we had to lean against the wall, and some were advised to come back at 4 pm as it was a one person ticket in and one person ticket out system… That’s just silly… And also tickets were also being sold at the door… That would just make people who already have tickets more frustrated!! It just wasn’t fair… Our umbrellas were out, the sun was out, and we were all hot… I know I’m British and queuing is our thing (but the British actually hate queuing), however I’m also Chinese and when I see disorder it must be organised straight away! Argh! …ย
Queuing the wrong way round
Looks like these two characters needed a break! ^_^
And this was just part of the queue… It got longer… as you can see people had their brollies out as it was hot
Character from Kingdom Hearts (my brother doesn’t know which one!)
After an hour of queuing, a volunteer said we could go to the fast track queue as we had Master H as our saviour!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I have thanked Master H so many times on the day… Yay we got in!!!! Sorry for all the people in front of us! (as they would have been queuing for a bit more longer…)…

We got fast tracked… Yay! Thank you!!
First thing was to go to the loo, ๐Ÿ˜€ next thing was to split up and walk around… So Miss Pinky and I walked around together, and Mr Picky took Master H around… That was a good deal to split up as I think we would have gone crazy with each other! And here goes the pictures…

And finally some girls in modern day geisha wear… getting ready for some entertainment show…
There were so many cute things, food and lots of things to see, but most stalls preferred you paid in cash so I didn’t buy much… I hadn’t realised I knew so much about manga, anime, food and cute things from Japan! Thanks to my brother who got me really into this stuff… I’m hoping to go to Japan in the nearest future… Fingers crossed!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Hyper Japan was a very good event… just the queuing system needed to be sorted out… Lots of Tweeters were thinking the same, and one said more people could have entered into the arena… but safety and entering a certain amount of people into one area is the issue in all events.

Hope those that got in had a lot of fun, and those that didn’t will go next year!

And finally we got to Embankment and walked towards South Bank… We got ice cream too… I had a bit of food at Miss Pinky’s mother’s place before heading out to eat again… But unfortunately Mr Picky is a definite picky person and Miss Pinky didn’t want to eat what he wanted… He doesn’t like to eat out ๐Ÿ˜ฆ … So I headed home and grabbed a Subway sandwich…ย
In Southbank
My ice cream of Eton Mess and Cookies…
