Surrey Docks City Farm

Not really having enough time to blog so much, so I’ve decided to re-download the app and blog away… 😅  You might get to see more smileys too. Whoopee!
Miss Pinky was in desperate need of a babysitter as her normal one was taking a day off!  😅 So I agreed, told Miss Vegan and Mrs Sweets to man the workload whilst I become a godmother for the day. 😆
After a morning of Peppa Pig (thought I could manage a whole day of it, but that will never happen), quick breakfast and super godmother quick dressing, I took Baby B to Surrey Docks Farm… I can’t believe Miss Pinky and Mr Picky have never taken her there. Half an hour away from their home.
Baby B and I took the bus 381… But she fell asleep half way through the journey! 😮 No don’t fall asleep Baby B! 😥
Got off at Downtown Road, and I asked a lady for directions. Baby B was still asleep…
So in the meantime, I took pictures for Miss Pinky to see the that her daughter fell asleep in the pram and was still sleeping as I walked around.

By this point I took a seat on a broken bench, looking at Baby B and see if she would awake. Nope. No signs of waking up.

Just as we were leaving, past some Chinese tourists/ business people… and then an old Chinese couple with their grandchild who were trying to make conversation with me in Mandarin… Tried to explain that Baby B wasn’t mine by my god child. Lol. They thought I was a nanny… In the end they got it! I think talking to this Chinese grandparents had awakened Baby B, so I was super excited and did the whole trip around the farm again… 😌

Baby B seemed super happy, even gave her some massive super snack of cherry tomatoes, she was happy… The only mishap which scared me the most was when she fell done the wooden stairs because she didn’t hold onto the sides. Baby B gave me a big heart attack, but she didn’t cry, didn’t scream in pain… Amazed at her strength at containing herself. But I found out later from Miss Pinky that she does this a few times when she walks down the stairs. Anyway, had to go up the stairs and then walk down them again with Baby B, but had to go back up and take the pram down afterwards. 😣
Apart from the one mishap, we had a good time running around. 😊

The Yellow House – London Surrey Quays

A few hours later after the Scandinavian Christmas Fair, Miss Pinky, her friends, middle brother, Mr Fly (who I haven’t seen for a long time) and I went out to celebrate Miss Pinky’s birthday at The Yellow House in Surrey Quays. It’s just opposite the Surrey Quays Overground station. However Miss Pinky didn’t book a table at the restaurant part, so we had to wait… And I was starving… 😦
Outside The Yellow House

Finally after about an hour and a half when everyone arrived, I already had a bowl of handcut chips and we were all drinking we were told our table was ready. Yipee…

And now I am going to turn into The Horrible Geek. I don’t want to, but I think I have to. Well first the bar and waiter were utterly nice, but I think were a bit forgetful at who ordered what (we got a few wrong orders being served at our table). I thought the chef was too over-excited to be a chef. (I am actually used to seeing head chefs who shout at their staff and will at least have a sweat on their foreheads! – My Dad used to be one!).

Now on with the food. There were six of us. Miss Pinky was catching up with everyone, so we took a while ordering food.

The Starters

First off was my garlic and mozzarella bread. This had a really STRONG garlicky smell. (Miss Pinky told me the next day that it really stunk! Well that’s what you get with garlic bread!). Since it was so strong, and I could see the others glaring thinking “get that food away from me!”… so I offered around the table. Thankfully Mr Fly took two pieces, and one of Miss Pinky’s friends took a piece too! Phew! Never again! … I did like it by the way minus the smell. ^_^””
Garlic and Mozzarella

Not many of us had starters, but had starters as their main meal. Here’s another starter. Lamb Kofta. All the men at our table had this as their main and starter. They all said it wasn’t bad!

The Mains (plus Starters as Mains ¬_¬”)

One of Miss Pinky’s friends had two starters as her main… But I didn’t catch the names of her dishes… I think this was a mixture of it all…
Don’t know what this is!

I had the Steak Halibut (I was actually wanting a beef steak but forgot that halibut was fish!!! Stupid me!!). Anyway, mine was not bad! I like the sauce, the mussels, the fish didn’t smell, and the mash went well with the sauce and fish. Happy Geek!

Steak Halibut

Miss Pinky had the Rib-Eyed steak… Hmmmm… It wasn’t good… Too much seasoning going on in there. Too much salt. The peppercorn sauce also looked like barbeque sauce with peppercorns added in… (I’m sure peppercorn sauce isn’t supposed to be that brown!!!!! I thought it was supposed to be creamy-gray looking).

Mr Fly had the Lamb… I didn’t try this out, but he said that it was too fatty… Cooked with too much oil I guess…

The Desserts and Coffees

I had the Pecan Brownie with Ice Cream. It was so-so. A bit sweet for my tastebuds. I also had a latte with mine. Not bad!
Pecan Brownie and Ice Cream

I like the way they made my latte!

My Fly and Miss Pinky shared the Dessert of the Day. The waiter was explaining what it was at the beginning, but I don’t think any of us got what he was saying…

Dessert of the Day

I swapped my dessert with the others. Theirs wasn’t too sweet and I liked the chocolate ice cream!

Finally Mr Fly had an Irish Coffee… Nice!
Irish Coffee!

Unfortunately after the dinner, my stomach didn’t do so well… And I hadn’t even eaten much during the day… 😦

My geeky rating: 2.5/5 (I would’ve given this place a 3.5 but after the bad stomach and overly-friendly chef, this lowered my scores) … it may have just been a bad day, but I would try this place again… Maybe…

Good points:
– Nice staff
– Big restaurant area
– Pub area is ok

Bad points:
– Miss Pinky said there was no music!
– Overly-friendly chef
– The food points made above (too lazy to point this out all over again!)

Suggestions:
– Change the recipe of the Rib-eyed steak
– Make a proper peppercorn sauce
– Put some music on!
– Put some table numbers on the tables so that the staff know who ordered what!

West Coast Grill and Bar – London Surrey Quays

Miss Pinky just moved into the Rotherhithe area in South East London and if you have followed me on Twitter we went to see Rock of Ages the film at the Surrey Quays Odeon. But before that both of us were very hungry!!! We had three choices of restaurants – Pizza Hut, Frank and Benny’s or West Coast Grill and Bar. At first we decided Frank and Benny’s because Miss Pinky thought West Coast was closed down… She thought wrong! It was open and  we decided to go in their instead.

West Coast Grill and Bar – Surrey Quays Branch

It was quiet for a Saturday afternoon (well it was about 4pm) but we seated ourselves near one of the windows. Since it’s an American style restaurant I was craving for steak! And I wanted starters too ^_^…

The menu

First I ordered the garlic bread and mushrooms… They were so tasty and buttery. I can still taste them in my mouth (mouth watering!).

Extremely tasty mushrooms and garlic bread ^_^

Miss Pinky ordered the bourbon chicken wings, but after she tasted mine she wanted swap… uh no way!

Yummy chicken wings… they tasted good!

We both ordered a steak. I ordered the 10oz rib eye which already comes with chips, onions rings, fried onions and tomatoes and some salad.

My 10oz steak… So big!

Miss Pinky ordered the 7oz bavette (she has a smaller appetite) and came with all the sides as me. She ordered the steak rare, but it came out medium!

A still sizzling 7oz steak

Both of us were astonished at the size of our meal. It was MASSIVE! I’m afraid we were both defeated and didn’t finish all of it 😦 … If I was given another half an hour, I think I could’ve but we had to catch a film!

What a waste… But I did almost finish my chips (my plate is the one on the left)

I wish I could’ve had a dessert, but I was too full and the film was about to start! All together it cost around £53 for 2 people plus 4 drinks… So it was all worth it!!

My geeking rating:
5/5 (friendly service and big portioned sized meals… plus it was quiet at the time we went)

Good points:

  • Friendly service
  • Food served was very hot and tasty!
  • Big portions
  • Next to the cinema ^_^
Bad points:
None that I can think of!
